Package Statistics

At this time, we have received 65 package lists (We always need more! So please take a minute to upload your list of packages if you have not already, and thanks!). Based on this data, we're publishing the statistics for the packages in Ubuntu Breezy (x86 edition). The stats are pretty scarce, and may not represent real situation, because 65 data samples is a bit low. But nevertheless, here are the results.

The process

The statistics were made using 65 package lists, and popcon data. The popcon data was taken in account with a factor of 20 - the most popular package on that list was counted as being in 20 package lists. The entire popcon list was scaled this way.

The submitted raw package lists can be downloaded from here.

Installation stats

  • Packages installed: minimum 694, maximum 2212, average 1405
  • Installation size: minimum 944 MB, maximum 4869 MB, average 2437 MB
  • Downloaded extra: minimum 15 MB, maximum 1229 MB, average 345 MB
  • Most popular packages not on install disc: popular_packages.txt [sorted by popularity]

List of packages to be included in the DVD

For starters, we used the size limit of 4 GB. This was chosen because in the future Ubuntu will come with live system + installation system, and it will take up some of the space, and also because we have too little data at this point to provide a meaningful list of packages beyond 4 GB limit.

  • Number of selected packages: 5323
  • Total size of selected packages: 4000 MB
  • Missed packages:3.44 % (percentage of installed packages not selected for DVD)
  • Packages from install:342 (number of unpopular packages added because they are on the installation CD)
  • Package list: dvd_packages.txt [sorted alphabetically]
